FOR SUPERIOR TRUSTEE

WHY I AM RUNNING FOR SUPERIOR TRUSTEE

I moved to Colorado solo in 2008 to pursue adventure and endless powder. This journey allowed me to live, work and play in some of the best mountain towns around the state.

After more than a decade as a nomad, my wife Katie (who was pregnant at the time with our daughter Piper) and myself chose to move to Original Town Superior in 2020 to raise our family.

The parks, recreation and open space right out our front door in Original Town is what attracted us to Superior. And the quality of life and community was reminiscent of everything we loved about our favorite towns – Crested Butte and Ouray.

We lived in our house for just over a year before the Marshall Fire took it from us.

But during that year we fell in love with Superior and confirmed this is where we belong.

As we move forward with rebuilding our home in Original Town Superior, I am running for Superior Trustee to ensure our town protects the things my family loves:

Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Trails
Quality of Life + Community
Placemaking + Vibrancy

ABOUT ME

I have spent most of my entire 15-year career working in Colorado’s outdoor industry focusing on making our trails, mountains and activities more accessible.

Currently I am the Partnerships and Recruitment Director at First Descents, which provides outdoor adventure programs for young adults with cancer. I’ve also been the executive director for Boulder-based Paradox Sports and served on the leadership team at Crested Butte’s Adaptive Sports Center. Both organizations are committed to ensuring people with disabilities have access to Colorado’s best skiing, rock climbing and mountain biking.

What I Care About

Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Trails

Superior boasts almost 30 miles of trails and hundreds of acres of open space. With sports fields, outdoor pools and a skate park – we are a tiny outdoor mecca along the Front Range. I am passionate about preserving our natural assets and outdoor spaces. These areas must be clean and safe for families. I also want to ensure development doesn’t take away from our natural open space or block our epic views of Eldorado Canyon and the Boulder Flatirons.

Quality of Life + Community

Responsible growth means that even as the town scales up, we stay focused on why we live here: Our connection to playing outside and one another. Development must be planned. I will make sure new buildings create a sense of place, not a place of projects. I will encourage more compact development and more interactions between buildings. When we feel like we belong, we feel a greater responsibility to the community and more connected to our neighbors.

Placemaking + Vibrancy

Downtown Superior is being developed and new proposals for residential and commercial projects are in motion. Fragmented communal space contributes to a lack of social cohesion. An activated Downtown Superior will enable us to spend time in town, rather than driving elsewhere for activities and gatherings. I believe the architecture, aesthetic and activities should all solidify our character as a cool Colorado town with a small-town vibe.
